When I lost my full-time job a couple of years ago, I got two part-time jobs to maintain my income. My day job is on the northwest side of Chicago and my evening job is on the south side. I was always tired and I dreaded getting up at 4am so I could be out the door at 6am in order to deal with my long commute four days a week. When I came home in the afternoon, I would take a nap or run errands and work the evening shift at my second job. I was frustrated and angry because I felt that I wasn’t making enough money and despite several places I’d applied to, I still hadn’t found a full-time job yet.

Everything Happens for a Reason

In my previous post, I mentioned that I wanted to do things to push myself out of my comfort zone. I had planned to see SWV and CeCe Peniston at the Shrine on Friday June 7th. The thought of going to a club already made me nervous (I’d been to a few clubs with my ex and a friend of mine), but I was determined to go, dance like crazy, and think, “Yeah, I may look goofy, but I’m having fun!” I’d already chosen an outfit to wear and even worked an earlier shift Friday morning so I could relax and mentally prepare myself for that evening.

Changing Your Story

One of my favorite websites, Daily Om featured a great article by Madisyn Taylor called “Creative Cuts: Editing Your Life.” She describes life as a movie script that we can edit or change when our story no longer works for us/serves our purpose. By taking control of our lives and changing things we don’t like, we become empowered.
